It must have been the book 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil', or all the Hollywood movies, I feel the need to discover more of North America, the heart land. I have no baggage, I have no hang ups. I was born and raised in Italy. I am capable to accepting people of all personalities, as long as they are good people. I believe that in the world the majority of people are of a good nature, and those are the people I want to meet on this trip.
I love to make connections, whether we are soaking in the campground jacuzzi, or waiting in a museum line, or having a beer in a bar. I love a good story.

Day 83 - Elko Nevada to Lincoln California: Final Day!

It's the home stretch. We are coming home California. But first we have to go through Donner pass in the middle of a snow storm.
The snow is not sticking to the ground and we are going to make it out before it does.

We have gone through so many places and so many more we didn't have time to see.
We learned so much. Every state is different. We always found kind people at every corner. We will never forget all the beautiful people we met along the way: Luis, Horacio and Freddy, Rich and Ruth, Naomi, Zoe, Tracy, Matt, Albert, Gary and Kathie, Julian and Anne, Les and Jane, Heather and her girlfriends, Ricardo, Dean, Otis...
We understand that our experience was limited by the fact that we were tourists, and sometimes it really worked out in our favor. We want to be tourists at home. We might rediscover places and people that were right under our noses and we hadn't noticed before.

A couple of mental notes:

  1. We will not make plans for afterwards when we start a trip like this. We want to be more flexible with our time.
  2. We will stay in each place at least a week and get a deal on the weekly plan.
  3. We will do site seeing only every other day.
  4. We will travel on Sunday.
  5. We will stay in State Parks as much as possible. They are the best for the best price.
  6. We made a detailed list of the things that are left in the trailer and the things we need to bring.

  1. Welcome back to California! Thanks for writing such a great blog. We enjoyed reading it immensely! And while we will miss being armchair travelers with you, we are also glad you are back and that you made it out of the okefenokee swamp :-). H&L
